These conversations and resources are amazing! I would so love for all interested parties to make their way to the Allied Media Conference this summer where we are talking specifically about the application of speculative fiction in social justice organizing! Would love to have you amazing panelists there!

You can learn more about the amc here!

Just to clarify...what I meant was that I am disgusted with the fact that this even has to be discussed...the problem is not in the story but in the real world (publishers, etc.)...that is where the walls come up...and authors (whether of color or not) are sometimes apprehensive or afraid to put character of color (especially ones that are positive in nature)into their stories...a good story is a good story...so write and we will read!

This whole discussion makes me laugh with disgust...we can deal with elves, orcs, witches, space ships, etc. which are ALL fantasy...they are not real...but throw in a person of color and OMG all of our worlds come crashing down...damn, we (yes I am black) can't even escape to a world of fantasy either and find freedom or some other plot for antagonism other than skin color as it pertains to people of color in the REAL world...if one can't handle people of color in fantasy for the sake of their color, then you are beyond a shadow of a doubt racist to the core and that is sad.

Fascinating conversation about an important issue. My new book, Act of Will, features a classic adventuring party with two PoC. The next book in the series, which won't be out for a year, tackles the issue of race in fantasy more directly.

Cheers

I had wanted to take part in the round table, but ended up being unavailable. I'm really impressed by the thoughtfulness of the panel about a variety of difficult issues. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of it.
