I agreed with the comment that the story felt done after he disappeared, the moment I finished reading. I re-read the last paragraph a few more times after reading the comment to see if I could tie it into the plot (which was well constructed) and gave up. It feels more like a stray afterward, disconnected from the build-up. I couldn't tell if she was reclaiming something, or if it was just wishful thinking, or if it bode finality... and to be frank I really didn't want it regardless of what it showed me.

But despite my personal frustration over that handful of lines it was an overall good read and worth more than the small amount of time I invested (including this comment). I personally liked how the POV was so strong she (or the plot for that matter) didn't attach any value to his verbal responses.

""You’re vanishing.”::

“No, I’m not.” He sat up. “Hey, I’m right here.”

I could feel him becoming less solid, fading away[...]"

It may take two people to sustain a relationship but it only takes one to end it. And you said it with smooth, flowing symbolism.

Wow. I just clicked this because of the poll, to be honest. But it's very original. I love how you used the fantastic to illustrate a real-life principle. This is truly original. Not to sound condescending, since I am younger than you, but it's impressive that one so young could be so thoroughly original. Most writers would say it's impossible for younglings like you and I. =P

Very good work. Perhaps this is simply the culture in which I grew up, but I would have made it a husband, instead of a boyfriend. Perhaps it's the permanence. But then again in our world marriage is not permanent. So, forget I said anything.

Awesome work, and I look forward to seeing more of your writing!

One of the most original stories I have read in awhile. A very unique idea and brilliant metaphor for a love that died. The key was towards the end where she thought back about what they use to do and how it use to be. So many women and men said in their marriages it is different later on. The marriage gets routine. This story seems to illustrate that. A spouse who is always at work or out with friends or anywhere but home with their spouse. This seems to be an analogy for that. The most sad part came at the end when he said he was there and that he loved her and then he disappeared. He didn't know what was happening. This is so true for a lot of spouses they don't realize what little time they are spending with their spouse until sometimes it is too late.

Oh wow. What a hauntingly beautiful, yet horribly sad story. It made me tear up and just the thought of having your loved one erased is just--totally saddening.

Congrats on getting this story published. It is amazing.

Congratulations, Elena.

An outstanding first story, and I agree with the others, one that lingers after you've finished.
