Oh, the new SC makes me so sad and so angry. I loved the Dreamcast game. I can't bring myself to buy this one.

The really tragic thing about that Soul Caliber progression is that, for me at least, the first incarnation is by far the most attractive. The latest version looks to be anatomically impossible, and even if it were possible, that poor woman would be in so much pain...

Laurel - So far it's just Half Life 2 and Elebits that get to me (I really enjoy Elebits, but I can only play in ten-minute bursts!), so I'll have to look into Morrowind and Oblivion. :-)

Robyn - I like the customizable characters, the gorgeous vast world, the non-linear plots, and that Morrowind and Oblivion are both single-player games.

However, if you have trouble with first-person POV games, Morrowind/Oblivion might give you trouble, since that's the only perspective used. I usually get sick from those games too, but I was so enchanted with Morrowind the first time I played, I stuck with it long enough that my body eventually gave up on the motion sickness.

JS Bangs - I agree that Alyx is really cool. Half-Life 2 itself gives me motion sickness (sad, I know), sadly, but I peek at the screen periodically when my husband is playing so I can see Alyx being awesome.

Laurel - Isn't it? I'm really bummed about Ivy. I've heard good things about Morrowind and Oblivion, but I've never played either. What do you like about them?

I owned a game once called "Haunting Ground". The female protag was excessively well-endowed and in a way it spoiled the whole game. It had many interesting elements of game play, but you could tell the game developers dedicated probably 1/3 of the gaming bus to getting her boobs to bounce when she ran, and stopped, and ran again. And stopped.

Seriously though, it was gratuitous.

Wow, that progression in Soul Calibur is obnoxious. Dang.

I'd like to nominate Morrowind/Oblivion for being all-genders-friendly and non-boob-centric as well.

An honorable mention needs to go to Half-Life 2. The main character is male, but costar Alyx tops my list of non-insulting female game characters. She's sensibly dressed, smart, and saves the protag's ass at least as often as he saves her.
