I understand that this is an old post, but I just found it and read it. I thought it was a very interesting article and a very useful one at that. While I have never read Zahrah the Windseeker and cannot comment, I have read the Harry Potter series and i do agree with you in that Harry does now lead a conformist life, but I do believe that over time, he grew to accept himself and his fate. He stopped worrying about why me, and learned that he truly was fighting for the cause he believed in. I think he matured and began come into himself, understanding that it was okay to be who he was. In addition, while other characters may have thought him to be something spectacular and awe inspiring, he himself saw normal. He accepts that there are brighter wizards and witches and that he isn't all powerful. I am not sure how the thing that made him different are gone now. He still is the boy who lived and he still is the one who defeated Voldemort. These two things still separate him from the 'normal' population. He has just accepted it.

I'm sorry to ramble, and I'm not sure if you're still reading any updates on here, but these were just my feelings. I might just have to go read Zahrah the Windseeker now.

A very interesting article. There was one part I wondered about, though--Frodo as an example of a "Chosen One". He is, to some extent, forced into the situation when he receives the Ring, given that his only choice at the beginning is to stay and be killed or leave and--well, probably be killed anyway. However, later he chooses to take the Ring, and then chooses to go to Mordor with only Sam instead of going to Minas Tirith with the rest of the Company. (There are more minor choices, but those are the most important and most obvious ones.) It's also true that Sam, who, according to JRRT, was Bilbo's real successor, makes several important decisions regarding his conflicting loyalties, e.g. when he sees the Shire being destroyed through Galadriel's mirror and when he thinks that Frodo is dead.
