While the “6 Million Dollar Man” was a made for TV movie as well as a series, it was based on Martin Caidin’s book, “Cyborg”. As to other movie/tv cyborgs, don’t forget the characters in “Ghost In The Shell” the anime movie and espisodes based on Junichi Fujisaku’s manga.

Thanks, Rochita. It was fun to write. I’d not thought of the classic cyborgs in a very long time until the trailers and hoopla started for Terminator Salvation.

I’ll admit, Lindsay Wagner’s The Bionic Woman was a fantastic boon for me as a young girl. I was also partial to Wonder Woman but never felt comfortable wearing underoos in public, so The Bionic Woman was my fave.

It’s amazing how popular and commercially successful the cyborg theme has been. I really appreciated the easy to access video clips, especially since I hadn’t seen a few of the films. The excerpts from Poe and Jonathan Swift were fun, literary (which you’d never accuse the Terminator of being) and really made Rae’s (the author’s)point. Good article – Thanks.

Talk about shots of nostalgia. I remember watching The Six Billion Dollar Man when I was much younger ( I think I was in highschool). There was also a Six Billion Dollar Woman, but I think that got cancelled or only went for one season.
