This was an interesting perspective on the book I hav to say. I had to choose btwn P.P. & PPZ to read for my a.p. english class & i slightly wish i read this review b4 i finished PPZ. I def think it ruined the story not 2 mention the zombie scenes were half-fast & did nothing to rly enhance the original story

Interesting review - I first saw the book and while P&P is my fav. Austen novel, I was quite amused and was willing to give it a go.
I actually really liked this review as it seems to be quite fair but I'll probably get around to reading the novel eventually...

My wife was disgusted with the idea of PPZ, but I was hopeful that it would be clever. I read the first sentence and had to agree with her. It was entirely without merit. I didn't get past the first paragraph.

I tried to read the book, but abandoned it in disgust halfway through. The research was shoddily done, what writing Grahame-Smith actually did was shoddy and sophomoric, and as you said, the combat scenes dragged the story down rather than enhancing it.

It might have been a fantastic book, if only the writer had actually LIKED his source material enough to consider it worth a little effort, research, and respect.

I wrote my own review of the book -- what I read of it, -- and ended it with: "In short; a neat idea, and I wish a better writer had thought of it."

What I did not know before reading your review, however, was that this represents not an unfortunate anomaly, but a trend. And I am flat-out appalled to hear that all the targets of this remix-mania will be women writers.
