The review did get reworked at the request of the author, and I’m glad to note that here, and to acknowledge my responsibility in putting the original review up without looking at it carefully.

I’m not going to discuss the internal working of the magazine, other than to note that we’ve suffered from fluctuations in book review editors and insufficient guidance for reviewers, and I’m hoping to rectify that soon.

Though I applaud the decision to rework this review from its original, nigh-unintelligible form (as analyzed in this blog post by Martin Lewis) it seems shockingly unprofessional not to note this change. For that matter, given that the changes are almost entirely in line with the criticism Martin made, one would almost expect him to get an editor credit on the revised version.
