I think the word “bittersweet” sums this one up about perfectly.

I liked the narration. The blending of the real with the surreal was nicely done.

I envisioned the cook as sorta like Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men, giving people a choice of hash browns or grits with their breakfast.

Beautiful story. Since I’m sitting in the office I actually had to push my fingers into my eyeballs to keep from crying in Chapter 6.
