Wow. It's nominated for a Theodore Sturgeon Award (see http://www2.ku.edu/~sfcenter/sturgeon-finalists.htm). I hope it wins.

Another great short story by Lee. Loved the little historical details (past and present). The podcast reading isn't bad either (http://www.fantasy-magazine.com/2009/10/clockatrice-by-tanith-lee-audio/). I read a few of the competitors' stories and "Clockatrice" should be a dead ringer. Tanith Lee is one of those amazing authors who nevertheless seem, inexplicably, to be underappreciated when it comes time to actually win awards.

Let's hope the folks handling the Theodore Sturgeon Award this year vote for it.

I loved this. She has such a talent for bringing so vividly to life. I especially like the first half and her evocation of Elizabethan times and her sense of humor -- she almost laughs at herself, at her own conventions, at this stage of her career.
But her descriptions are always amazing. I read Tanith Lee for her use of language as much as for her stories.
I enjoyed having the podcast. One has time for so many stories that way.
Thanks!
