I'm not quite sure what path across the interwebs brought me here, but this story is spectacular. Entrancing, kind of like a surreal fever dream...

I love the format of this story, the diary entries really resonate. I also love the wistfulness that comes through the quest narrative. Good job Nicole, I always like your stories!

Very satisfying, like good, warm from t'oven bread. Really enjoyed this - I so wanted her to find her mother, or her father - even so, the ending was right. Thanks.

It took me a little while to get into this story, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. I love the image of the wedding cake full of bees, and the revolution later using wedding cake shaped ordnance. I also thought the Raccoon's speech was really great--maybe harrowing even--and an interesting counterpoint to the also moving section where the narrator talks about the Raccoon's spirit living on. And the ending--wow.

Genre incognita! Like a Gabriel Garcia Marquez/Pippi Longstocking mash up! The feeling is: I think I understand, but it doesn't really matter because I liked it.
