The title of Karen Heuler's story "So He is" led me to expect a story built on a series of conversations, instead it put me into a state of reexamining The Pied Piper. The way the author makes the Piper both sinister and attractive, the way the children are marred and pliant, the way Nina and Fleur vie for Piers' love sketches strivings and and jealousies, delusions and desperation common to us all. Walter's own debility, the result of his struggle with Piers, and his vain attempt to deflect Piers' influence, demonstrate his weakness.
Nina's success in exterminating Piers surprised me. I might delete the last sentence.
